The purpose of the Education Committee is to improve the quality of statistical education in New Zealand.
We work to achieve this by inputs to conferences, and to reviews affecting curriculum and assessment
and resources in Statistics.
We have members in
several centres, and meet bi-monthly by video and phone. The Committee has existed since 1986.

NZSA also supports
the biennial conferences of the NZ Association of Mathematics Teachers (NZAMT)
by helping to fund speakers in statistics education. It has done this since

Draft Curriculum Feedback

The Ministry of Education solicited feedback on the Draft Curriculum, due by the
end of November 2006. The following are some of the submissions relating
to the Statistics component of the Curriculum. The Education Committee of the
NZSA has played a strong role in coordinating this feedback.

Statistical Terminology in the Draft
Curriculum 30/1/2007 This note is intended to clarify the meaning of statistical terms used in the Draft Curriculum. "resampling" In the statistical context, resampling will most often refer to bootstrapping. Bootstrapping is a method for estimating the sampling distribution of an estimator by resampling with replacement from the original sample (Wikipedia). DVD: "Statistics in Research: A Visual Teaching Resource" The DVD: "Statistics in Research: A Visual Teaching Resource", created by John Harraway (University of Otago) and filmed at and subsequent to the NZSA 2005 Conference in Dunedin, is now available through the CASM Unit, University of Otago. It contains nine case studies, and has an accompanying data CD. See the linked pdf file for full details.
